Can I realistically expect this pi to give me adequate write times to say watch an hd quality movie? Should I just give my money to amazon now and get the pi2? Or should I just keep shoveling money to my util company and setup a core2 box?
Cheers,

Cheers,
a 7.0 g file bein copied to the usb ext4 drive attached to the pi starts with a write speed of 8.0 mb/second and after about 4 mins falls to 7 mb/second
yep 720 mkv runs nice. I want to say that you guys did a real nice job with this distro kudos
PS the [software failure] is from our Amiga days gone by,
The built-in 10/100 Ethernet could give you a max speed of 7-8MBps, using a ethernet-to-usb adaptor will give you max speed of 480Mbps (only if you are NOT using other USB devices) due to the bottleneck of the USB controller.
Realistically, expect no more than 10MBps of traffic speed.
Thanks for the reply OJ, would something like this http://www.amazon.ca/StarTech-…&keywords=ethernet+to+usb do the trick? Also, would I connect it through a powered-usb hub along with my hard drive?

Nope. The USB Bus is shared between everything, including the onboard Network adapter. So you can get a maximum of around 10-11 Megabyte/s, if you Overclock your RPi B+.
