I have an open wifi with mac address filtering so I don't need to provide a password when configuring the wifi interface in the gui.
But when I add the usb WiFi Dongle interface from the gui it force me to enter a password.
I can I use my open wifi?
Connect to Open WiFi network

- OMV 2.x
- mcgyver83

I´ve created a bug here:

thanks

If that does not get implemented read this Customize /etc/network/interfaces the OMV way [>= 1.11]
is is a big security risk by the way, and Mac filtering is pointless

Open wifi is stupid. You should be using WPA2.

Connecting you server to open wifi is not a good idea. Running an open wifi network for guests to connect is not a bad idea if it is sufficiently separated from your regular network. -
But then anyone could be collecting data on the guests... Most people are not smart enough to use a VPN in an open wifi environment.
-
FritzBox (router) completely seperates the guest wifi from the internal wifi. It usually is off but you can activate it if you want to. Either for a specific amount of time or till the last client disconnects.

Sorry but where is the risk? I'm using mac filtering so what kind of data can a guest connect if is only connected to the wifi but cannot see anything, also the router admin page is protected?

He can see everything that's not encrypted in transport, login names, passwords, content in plain http or ftp.
You can also see all clients mac addresses connecting to the AP, then the person changes his wifi device MAC address from one of the authorized ones, and that's it, his inside your network stealing BW or brute forcing the router login or the OMV server. WEP encryption was flawed, MAC filtering is like taking a candy from a kid.
There is a reason why WPA/WPA2 was created, you seriously cannot be running a linux server and then have your wifi home network open. -
Ok, you convinced me I'll move to WPA2 this night

If you want more info, google for "mac spoofing". You can change your MAC Adress with the push of a button.
