Consistent jbd2 activity on new hard drive

  • Hello together,
    im new here and have a silly question about jbd2. I have added a new hard drive to my NAS, and jbd2 won´t stop reading on it permanently.

    I have done a fsck, with no result but im getting messages from Monit which tell me "file system flags have changed to 0x1000". Well i have no idea why i get these messages.

    Here are some config files that could be helpful.

    FSTAB

    Code
    UUID=ed3988bc-33a5-470f-9c1a-8f17b0f63e0e /media/ed3988bc-33a5-470f-9c1a-8f17b0f63e0e ext4 defaults,nofail,user_xattr,noexec,usrjquota=aquota.user,grpjquota=aquota.group,jqfmt=vfsv0,acl 0 2
    UUID=621b30df-d148-482d-90ee-1f254bae4785 /media/621b30df-d148-482d-90ee-1f254bae4785 ext4 defaults,nofail,user_xattr,noexec,usrjquota=aquota.user,grpjquota=aquota.group,jqfmt=vfsv0,acl 0 2

    Code
    lsblk
    NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
    sda 8:0 0 7,3T 0 disk
    └─sda1 8:1 0 7,3T 0 part /media/621b30df-d148-482d-90ee-1f254bae4785
    sdb 8:16 0 7,3T 0 disk
    └─sdb1 8:17 0 7,3T 0 part /media/ed3988bc-33a5-470f-9c1a-8f17b0f63e0e

    Everything else is basically default, just 3 disks in it, two of them are the same modell. One of them (with the jbd2 problem) is only used for manual backups i make with rsync. So the sda drive (which has the problems) should normally not be active in any way.

    Greetings

    Seems to be an issue with ext4. This is why some people are using xfs.

    There are plenty of posts about this in this forum because it causes the drive to not spin down. It definitely fixes it in those threads switching to xfs. I haven't seen a good fix for ext4 though. Read this and this.
