S.M.A.R.T devices missing?

  • I've recently upgraded to the latest OMV via apt on squeeze. For some reason recently, all the disks within the "Devices" tab have disappeared. That tab is now completely empty. /etc/smartd.conf does have entries in it. /var/log/smartd.log is also being updated. It seems as though somehow the GUI has become disconnected from what squeeze is doing maybe? How can I get the disks to show up in that tab again?

    What is the output of:

    cat /etc/fstab

I didn't realize you had that many drives =O

Your fstab is empty. Can you post the output of:

    omv-showkey mntent

or you can get the same info in the Support Info tab if you select System - mntent from the dropdown.

  • Yeah. 24 drives total. They're all in a Norco RPC-4224. 8o

The fstab isn't empty. Unless by "empty" you mean that the 24 HDD's aren't in there. If so, that should be OK in my case. I don't want OMV to mount anything other than /dev/sda1-2 on boot. All other drives (minus the USB stick I mentioned) are RAID'ed then ietd serves the /dev/md0 device out as an iSCSI LUN.

I don't see those tabs in the GUI that you mentioned but here's the CLI output. I also included the fstab just in case something's wonky with pastebin.

You don't have omv-extras installed so that won't work. Try:

    cat /etc/openmediavault/config.xml | awk '/<mntent>/,/<\/mntent>/'

Is there anything in the raid tab or filesystems tab or lvm tab? Are you still on squeeze or did you upgrade to OMV 1.0?

  • I misinformed you, I'm sorry. I get the names of debian's releases wrong all the time. I'm on wheezy.

    raid tab: yes, /dev/md0
filesystems tab: yes, /dev/sda1 and sdz1
lvm tab: yes, /dev/md0 is here also

  • If it helps any , when I try to load Storage>S.M.A.R.T>Devices I get an error window.

If you can get a drive mounted, the errors should go away.

Ok so you can only get smart status on drives with locally mounted filesystems?

Not really it should also point to devices, independant if they are mounted or not. I cannot reproduce this, I've even deleted the symlinks at /dev/disk/

Are you sure your upgrade is clean? i mean are you in 1.9? does apt-get -f install  maybe missing a package?

Check your repos at /etc/apt/sources.list make sure there are no references to squeeze

Check your omv packages with dpkg -l | grep openmediavault

:/ Well no, not really at this point. I started with a net install of wheezy a while back. I've forgotten what version of OMV I pulled down from the repo's initally. I've steadily upgraded to 1.9 using the updates section of the web UI.
