Cron daily message about samba recycle

  • Hello,
I receive the following message from cron every day

    Code
    /etc/cron.daily/openmediavault-samba-recycle:
Please wait, empty recyle bin of </media/186b8d0a-4375-4b98-b97e-8565fe8f6f9c/multimedia/> ...
Please wait, empty recyle bin of </media/186b8d0a-4375-4b98-b97e-8565fe8f6f9c/publico/> ...

    what does it mean?
Maybe it's a configuration problem with SAMBA?

  • I don't know why I receive this message every day.
I would like if someone can explain me because anacron sends me these messages?

It is because you have the recycle bin enabled on two shares and have it set to empty daily.

  • Thank you ryecoaaron!
I checked the configuration of the bin, because I remembered that I had set every 2 weeks and so has not been changed:

I do not remember that before upgrading to V1.0 receive the message and
I get the message with empty trash or not, is indifferent.

  • Good Morning from Germany,

i´ve got the same problem... i receive daily mails from "cron.daily" for the samba-recycles.
I have set it to 7 days for auto deletion. so the daily mail is not correct.

    Any idea ?

  • Hi Andre
Tired of messages and how, for me, was not vital Recycle Bin I turned it off.
I'll try to activate it again and see
    if appear again the
    cron messages.
    I will report the results.

  • Hi,

    thanks for the Feedback.

well, turning off the auto-deletion option of the recyle bin could not be the solution.
I wonder that we both should be the only ones having this problem...

There must be a way to deactivate this cron messages without deactivating the auto-deletion.

    Someone any idea ?

The cron job must be executed every day, otherwise you won't be able to catch and delete all files with the given age.

    Example:

Number of days to keep deleted files = 7

    cleanup script is executed 01.11
    file is deleted 04.11
cleanup script is executed 08.11, file from 04.11 will not be deleted
cleanup script is executed 15.11, file from 04.11 will be deleted but has an ago of 11 days

Because of that the script must be executed every day. So everything is working as expected.

  • It is absolutely no problem that the cron job runs every day,
but not necessary to receive a daily message because of this.

  • Thats true...

What about a seperate point under: "Notifications" Just for turning on/off this mails !?

    Asus Z97M-Plus / Intel Core i5 / 16 GB RAM / System: 120 GB Intel SSD / RAID 1 - 2 x 4 TB Seagate ST4000VN000 / USB Backup HDD - Seagate Backup Plus Desktop STCA4000200

  • So if I have not misunderstood WastlJ and Votdev,
If the recycle bin is used, cron send a message informing daily. You have deleted files or not.

As I said on previous post, I get the message from version 1.0, previously I don't remember.
Now, two days ago I've reactivated recycle bin and I haven't received any message.

I don’t know if Sunseeker can confirm.

  • I´m going to try this and will deactivate the recycle bin to check if i still receive mails.

...regarding this i´ll keep you up informed.

    @eBomber

Don´t you think it would be a good solution what i suggested ?
(What about a seperate point under: "Notifications" Just for turning on/off this mails !? )

if yes, i would create a change request..

  • Sunseeker,
I turned it off and now I've been reactivated (a week ago) and hasn't sent me any message, I don't know why.

The only two changes I am aware are: OMV version and having disabled / enabled.

I think that before ordering the change would have to confirm that still sending messages.

  • Update:

After deactivating the recycle bin option yesterday evening i didn´t receive any message anymore today.

i will wait until tomorrow morning and then activate it again to check if they still come up.

  • Update:

After deactivating the recycle bin, waiting one day and reactivating it, i do not receive any cron mails anymore regarding the samba recycle activity. So i guess that this thread can be closed.
