Dedicate NIC to local traffic only

  • I am fairly new to configuring linux and cant find any topics on the subject

    Code
    Goal:
Dual NICs in a OMV box.
    Eth0 - Dedicated to non-local traffic
Eth1 - Dedicated to local traffic

Currently I have static ip's setup on both NICs.
My local network is 192.168.0.0/24 ipv4 only

Any suggestion or links to help me achieve my goal.

What is non-local traffic? Internet? Why do you want to do this?

Please try ctrl-shift-R and read this before posting a question.

Please put your OMV system details in your signature.
Please don't PM for support... Too many PMs!

  • Possible, via multiple solutions, though not one of them is really user friendly. So the question from Aaron remains.

  • Just forget about the idea. The gain of it would be minimal, however it would require much effort to configure something like that. And for effort I mean, configuring it for each application!

  • This is waste of a NIC. The only way I would do this is if I was running a firewall on OMV. You should learn how to use firewall rules and then the services you want only on your LAN will not be accessible outside of your LAN.

  • See:

Well, the first thing you will need to do is ensure that transmission is running under its own unique user id (UID). For rtorrent, this user (UID) is specified in the init.d file (etc/init.d/rtorrent). I assume that you will have a similar file for transmission . . . depending on how transmission is installed or how it works it may not like / allow running under a different UID?? btw, you can check the UID of the running processes probably through the OMV interface or by running "ps aux" at cli prompt (as root).

I then used the information in this link to tunnel the UID only through the interface. . . .
