Random crash?

  • Everyday(?) the machine crash and show these

[numbers] end_request: I/O error, dev sdb ,sector 812096

And needs to restart. Why is it doing that?
sdb is my usb with OMV

    Hardware configurations
CPU: Intel Pentium T4400 @2.20 GHz
    RAM: 3GB
    HDD:350GB HGST Travelstar

Pretty much just an old laptop :D

  • Hm.... maybe because errors like that happen we recommend to not use USB Sticks as the installation medium for the OS drive.

You stick is getting toasted. Replace it with a HDD/SSD/USB Stick with wear leveling. Do not clone your actual OS installation to the new drive as your installation is already corrupted.

Assuming you're using a flash drive is your OS drive.. It's dying.

An easy way to resolve this, if you must use this laptop as your NAS...

Buy a 2.5in 1tb drive and an external 2.5in enclosure
Format the 1tb in ext3/4, move all data from the 250gig drive, to it.
Pull the 250gig drive, and put it in the enclosure.
    Install OMV to the 250
Install the 1tb in the laptop

No more IO errors.... and 1tb of storage.. :)

  • Any NAS system that supports a /data partition so i could share the system HDD? I really need a NAS before I get all the things.

  • I can share the HDD where the system is installed by partition?

    Hardware configurations
CPU: Intel Pentium T4400 @2.20 GHz
    RAM: 3GB
    HDD:350GB HGST Travelstar

  • But won't the installer just read the whole disk not the partition?

Yep - EXT4 is enough if you do not plan to exceed 16TB of storage.

This is not an issue if you are using Wheezy/OMV 1.0 :)

    omv 7.0.4-2 sandworm | 64 bit | 6.5 proxmox kernel

Please don't PM for support... Too many PMs!

  • Got it up and running perfectly well. Thanks for the advise! My little allowance won't get me any where near a new hard drive. :D
