09/05/14 -> Despriction why unsing an own compiled kernel and added download of my kernel *REMOVED*

    Hello,

I want to show my NAS Build as well:

    Specs Today:
    Intel Pentium G3220 @ 3,0GHz
    Gigabyte H87N-WIFI
    8GB RAM
Crucial M500 (240GB) as System Drive
    RAID Controller: (LSI) 3ware 9650SE-8LPML
    4 x WD Green as a Hardware RAID5
    Case: U-NAS NSC-800

    System:

So no ethernet issues any more :D with the lastest kernel both enthernet cards (Intel/Atheros) works like a charm.

With the 3.12 backport kernel aswell with the 3.13 backport kernel i had some problemes with my atheros card.
The outgoing and incoming traffic wasn't count and it was not possible to bind a programms traffic on that card.

    RAID Specs:

The Haswell boards need the e1000e driver compiled because even the backports kernel doesn't support the Intel 217 NIC. Read this. Not sure about the second Atheros NIC.

Beautiful case. We need more pics :)

  • Yeah, its a nice case. But not cheap, a bit tight and you need a 4-pin power extension cable. Sadly it is a rare case where you can fit in 8 bays with hot swap. I only know one alternative (the one that one that was suggested in another thread here...)

Other than that, a nice NAS that holds my old raid controller ;) and it finally has some decent power (he had an atom previously, was too underpowered).

bonkersGER, I really like the specs of your setup on paper. Tell me. Is that CPU enough for transcoding 1080p as I want to also install plex server on this?

That is a good question. I use an Intel NUC D54250WYK as HTPC so i dont need to transcode 1080p media with my nas.

But I can run some tests when i get home from work.

  • Sorry for my late answer.

I streamed a few 1080p movies via Plexmediaserver. The quality was okay but the CPU usage overall was 90-100%.

I would recommend a stonger CPU for decoding 1080p media on your nas.
