I want to show my NAS Build as well:

Intel Pentium G3220 @ 3,0GHz
Gigabyte H87N-WIFI
8GB RAM
Crucial M500 (240GB) as System Drive
RAID Controller: (LSI) 3ware 9650SE-8LPML
4 x WD Green as a Hardware RAID5

So no ethernet issues any more 
with the lastest kernel both enthernet cards (Intel/Atheros) works like a charm.
With the 3.12 backport kernel aswell with the 3.13 backport kernel i had some problemes with my atheros card.
The outgoing and incoming traffic wasn't count and it was not possible to bind a programms traffic on that card.
