Cannot transfer media from Ext HDD to OMV Server

  • Hi Everyone,


    total noob here, i have managed to setup omv fine but now i am trying to transfer my current media collection onto the server from to external drives and the server crashes constantly.


    i have tried using rsync, SMB and it doesnt work. I am have no understanding on Linux and i am using a Mac..


    My server setup is, Onboard Intel Atom 1.6Ghz, 2GB Ram with 1 x 3TB Seagate Barracuda. I have upgraded the psu and case. thats about it.


    I have updated the kernels backport via omv-extras. Im going nuts here please help. 8|

    How is this crash happening? does the server loses network connectivity? the transfer get's interrupted? What's your evaluation to say the server crashed?


    We are not wizards here....into what kind of media is the system installed (flash usb drive or normal hdd)?


    Also do you have a monitor attached to the server?

    Its give some code and then the server reboots automatically.

    that seems to be a harddrive failure - sound like a unrecoverable error on the media you copy to.


    Looked into the SMART values on OMV-WebGUI?


    May be you can foto the crash on the monitor?

    For me it shows a memory-problem - since somewhat happen(d) to the smbd-process (in memory).


    Is your RAM free of errors? Try a memtest (memtest86 is nearly on all linux-live-cd's as boot option)
    ( sorry, forgot to mention: it could be also a thermal problem ... some hotpoints in your machine?)

  • where are the smart values under gui? I cannot find them, thought it was the SMART area?


    Also while installing my plugin for plex and sickbeard the pc froze, i restarted now it is saying that those plugins are installed but i cannot access them under services. if i try to uninstall i get this error

    i want to know how do i run these commands in ssh? do i use terminal? i am using a macbook.

    Everything else is setup, Plex, Sickbeard, Transmission and working just need to transfer my stuff over.
    Now currently running OS off Patriot USB with usb flash memory enabled.
