ZFS is not on the repo...

It was removed because it has not been ported to OMV 3.0.13+ datamodels. If you are one of the people who is attempting to still use OMV <3.0.13 then you will have to compile a package from github.

That is the kernel version. You need to look at the output of: dpkg -l | grep openm

You can still use the zfs plugin with OMV 2.x and with the backports kernel, you would have the same kernel version as the standard OMV 3.x kernel.

this is not possible e.g. for new builds with new skylake hardware where latest 4.6 kernel is required...
OMV 3.0.31 runs fine using latest kernel - but ZFS plugin would need to to be updated. too sad ... prob. limited support from others as this plugin is somewhat complex ...

    OMV 5 | 64 bit | backport kernels | latest omvextrasorg

backup NAS HP Proliant N54L, 4GB ECC RAM, 4x4TB WD Red - RAID 5, 30GB SATA boot.

Not true. You can compile your own 4.x kernel or use one of the pre-compiled kernels in one of the threads on the forum. zfs will be ported eventually.

  • ... will look into this, but then cannot use Erasmus 3.x improvements and Debian Jessie. Wheezy has also reached limited support.
So this is not really a fantastic option.
Would love to contribute to the Erasmus-ZFS plugin, but looks not so easy ... if there is no one how drives this port.

ZFS support would be of a great feature.

If porting is too complex ... and I understand there currently is no one taking ownership of the porting - is there a way to have zfs management outside of Erasmus but make the ZFS pool recognize by Erasmus GUI to take it from there?

You can do everything zfs from the command line and the plugin will show it. You just can't use the zfs filesystems in shared folders/plugins without the zfs plugin.
