Hopefully this makes its way to the OpenMediaVault development team. Once upon a time I used to really love Amahi (another media server platform), they needed a bunch of help at one point. They applied for GSOC (Google Summer of Code) and was accepted. They received a bunch of help with the development of both their platform and extensions. I personally was not part of that development but I did get to see some of the outcome from it.
TL;DR Google Summer of Code gives free help through use of students to the development community.
