NAS for home - What do you think about my design, please?

  • Hello,
I am newbie. I want build NAS for three home PC as backup and media server.
    I have this idea:

    HW
    Motherboard with CPU:
    GIGABYTE N3150N-D2H - Intel N3150
    http://www.gigabyte.com/produc…uct-page.aspx?pid=5622#sp

    RAM:
    Kingston HyperX Savage 8GB DDR3 1600 CL9 HX316C9SR/8
    http://www.kingston.com/dataSheets/HX316C9SR_8.pdf

    HDD:
    2x 2,5" WD Red (JFCX) - 1TB
    http://www.wdc.com/global/prod…/?driveID=1311&language=1
On first one will be OS + added partition with Documents (photos etc) shared to home web. Partition with Documents will be rsynced each day to next one (WD 1TB)
    +
2x 3,5" WD or Seagate disc 500GB with some multimedia files probably not in RAID provisionally, because these disc I already have and use. So I think, that I could to use them in this my project.

    Power supply:
This is very difficult for me to decide what to use.
    I suppose that HW (MB, 4xHDD) will consume about 25-30W in total (2x 4W 3,5"HDD + 2x 3W 2,5" HDD + 6W INTEL CPU + 5-10W MB (without CPU, already counted) and remaining things).
So now I do not know it is good idea to use some 200W ATX standart power supply or some micro power supply like this:

    Universal adapter SSA-0601D-12 230V -> 12V
    http://www.partis.cz/index.php?gid=2571
    +
    DC-DC conventor for mini ITX
    http://www.partis.cz/index.php?gid=2094
    or this
Power inventer DC/DC (in 12V/out ATX) 90W pico PSU (sorry about link I could find it in english)
    http://www.eurocase.cz/index.php?gid=3035
    +
    Reduction for 4x HDD
    1 x 4pin molex to 4 x SATA connectors
    http://silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=383&area=en

    :?:
Do you think, that all is able to connect together? Did I forget for something?
Do you think, that power supply with pico PSU or DC-DC inventer will be enought for MB + 4xHDD? Or shall I to use clasic ATX power supply for example 250W?

I know, that I did not write anything about case. This is not so important for me. I decide about that in next step.
    Thank you for any comments.

At the end I have to appologize to you for my english. Sorry. It is not my native language. I am from Cze.

That setup will work very well. If it is just serving files, you probably don't need that much ram but I guess it is cheap. I have a preference for the regular ATX power supply because of previous failures with the pico PSU (3 or 4 failures).

Please note that you will not be able to use the OMV OS drive to store data on without some additional work. OMV is designed to use the entire OMV OS drive for the OS. There are ways after install that you can resize and make more partitions and then make them available but that is level 2 type stuff. I would suggesting getting a small SSD to run the OMV OS on.
