Backup system disk to image trough Windows?

  • Hi,

I know there is a Clonezilla backup plugin in OMV. But I don't have any graphic-card or screen for my NAS.
Can i pull out the system disk, hook it up to my Windows 10 computer via SATA and clone an .img file from the complete system disk?

I want to save an .img file to be able to restore if something happens.

    Thank you very much!

  • As Subzero says, you can boot Clonezilla on your NAS and then access it via SSH (using Putty for example).
    Then log in and execute:

    Code
    sudo clonezilla

    as the backup plugin suggests.

Yes you can, just make sure you copy the boot sector with the imaging software, also you would want to make sure that the boot loader is actually on the disk you are cloning and not another disk attached to your server

Nevertheless it's easier to clone it via CLI using Clonezilla. You don't need to open the box and you neither have to be careful. Just clone all the system disk to another disk and you're ready to go.
